Two Realities Running in Parallel
While some sellers are right now securing evidence with a notary, preparing primary documents, and filing pre-litigation claims — a different scenario is unfolding elsewhere.
Thousands of sellers who lost three, five, ten million roubles in a burning warehouse are doing absolutely nothing. They film themselves crying for Instagram Reels, run roll calls in five-thousand-person Telegram groups, and forward each other voice messages. And in the discussions, a consistent message quietly appears: “Guys, you signed the terms… it’s all predetermined, there’s nothing to prove, just accept the discounted rate and move on.”
This is learned helplessness.
Four Consequences of Learned Helplessness
1. Voluntarily surrendering the right to compensation
You are relinquishing your right before anyone has tried to take it in court. A “virtual discount simulator” has been placed in front of you instead of real money — and you said nothing.
2. The snowball effect
When the system sees that sellers “wiped their face” and went to shoot Reels instead of filing claims, it receives a clear signal: this works. Next time another warehouse burns, the terms will be rewritten to be even harsher. You are personally narrowing the space of your own rights.
3. Reality distortion
In group chats, people infect each other with apathy. Other people’s successes get dismissed as “connections” or “luck,” while any legal action gets labelled “pointless insanity.” Eventually, a person stops seeing open doors — even when the law is literally handing them every legal tool they need (Articles 425, 428, 901 of the Civil Code).
4. A direct path to financial dead end
Helplessness does not protect your nerves. The brain consumes enormous resources suppressing legitimate anger and constructing justifications for inaction. Meanwhile, limitation periods are running down, account data is being wiped, and the realisation arrives: there is no capital left to buy new stock — and there will not be.
The Bottom Line
Learned helplessness is a psychological prison whose door is open. But you are sitting inside because bots and your own fears have convinced you there is nothing to be done on the outside.
A marketplace is not a deity or a higher power. It is an ordinary commercial entity that bears the same legal responsibility as you do.
What to Do Instead of Reels
Request your data and primary documents — UTDs, invoices, electronic document flow records.
Send a formal request and pre-litigation claim to the marketplace.
Secure evidence through a notary — while it is still accessible.
One real action is worth more than a thousand sympathetic messages in a chat.
